Contradictions in Identity

Contradictions in Identity

There are contradictions in my identity,
An environmentalist, I call myself,
Yet the hand dryer is used to dry my hands
And the towels sit on the shelf.

The contradictions in my identity
Are quite astounding to behold,
A feminist in a post-modern world,
Yet a skirt I was just sold.

These contradictions in my identity
Leave me wondering why,
The eating of non-organic cheese,
My vegetarian-self could justify.

The contradictions in my identity
Vary season by season,
A Queenslander mid-year, Bronco’s fan throughout,
Yet not without a reason.

These contradictions in my identity
Are not just mine alone,
Ingrained in humankind, into our minds,
Such contradictions are sewn.
