February

Orientation Week Market Day
Wednesday 24 February, 9am – 3pm

On Tuesday February 24, the University of Queensland (St Lucia campus) will be hosting its biannual Orientation Week Market Day. The UQU Women’s Collective will be hosting a stall with free giveaways, UQU Women’s Collective t-shirts for sale (for only $5!), full calendars of our 2016 events and you can even get a guided tour to the new Women’s Room!

The UQU Women’s Collective Market Day stall will be among the Clubs and Societies on the day.

In addition to this, an after-Market-Day-party and official Room Opening for the new Women’s Room will be held from 3.30pm – 5pm. This will feature pizza and goodtimes, and will be located in the new Women’s Room!

March

International Women’s Day Breakfast (St Lucia)
Tuesday 8 March, 7.30am – 9am

On Tuesday March 8, the UQU will be hosting our annual International Women’s Day Breakfast. This ticketed event, held at the St Lucia campus, will feature a buffet breakfast, phenomenal guest speakers and a morning of inspiration. Tickets will go on sale shortly.

International Women’s Day Event (Gatton)
Wednesday 9 March, TBC

On Wednesday March 9, for the first time ever, an International Women’s Day event will be held on the UQ Gatton campus. Keep your eyes peeled for more details!

Women in Business, Economics and Commerce Faculty Event
Monday 21 March, 6pm – 8pm

For the first of a series of six faculty events throughout the year, the UQU Women’s Collective and the UQU will be putting on a Women in Business, Economics and Commerce faculty event. This evening event will feature key industry leaders talking about their experiences and hardships as women in the field, and give advice for students wishing to enter the realm.

April

Feminist Week
Monday April 4 – Friday April 8

Throughout both Semesters 1 and 2, the UQU will again be hosting ‘Feminist Week’ – a week of activities, events, seminars, workshops, screenings and networking with a feminist perspective on the UQ St Lucia campus. This Feminist Week will also feature a faculty event on Women in the Legal Profession, featuring key speakers in the field, and the highly-acclaimed Women of Colour event (as hosted in both 2014 and 2015).

Women in Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty Event
Monday 16 May, 6pm – 8pm

For the third of a series of six faculty events throughout the year, the UQU Women’s Collective and the UQU will be putting on a Women in Humanities and Social Sciences faculty event. This evening event will feature key industry leaders talking about their experiences and hardships as women in the field, and give advice for students wishing to enter the realm.

End of Semester Picnic
Monday 30 May, 10am – 12pm

To celebrate the end of Semester 1, there will be a short End of Semester picnic in the Great Court.

July

For the fourth of a series of six faculty events throughout the year, the UQU Women’s Collective and the UQU will be putting on a Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) faculty event. This evening event will feature key industry leaders talking about their experiences and hardships as women in the field, and give advice for students wishing to enter the realm.

Bluestockings Week
Monday 8 August – Friday 12 August

The annual Bluestockings Week (celebrating women in higher education) will again be held on the UQ St Lucia campus. This event will also feature a faculty event on Women in Education (from 6pm – 8pm on Monday August 8).

Feminist Week
Monday August 29 – Friday September 2

Safer Sex Week
Monday 12 September – Friday 16 September

Similar to 2015, Safer Sex Week will be held again. Featuring workshops, seminars, stalls and freebies to promote safer sex, consent and respectful relationships, this event will be held on the St Lucia campus.

Women in Journalism and Communication Faculty Event
Monday 19 September, 6pm – 8pm

For the fifth of a series of six faculty events throughout the year, the UQU Women’s Collective and the UQU will be putting on a Women in Journalism and Communication faculty event. This evening event will feature key industry leaders talking about their experiences and hardships as women in the field, and give advice for students wishing to enter the realm.

International Day of the Girl Child Event (St Lucia)
Tuesday 11 October

To celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child, an event will be held on the St Lucia campus. More details will be released shortly.
